Feedback from Training

The Present Training in Beijing, October 2019

We were honoured to be invited to deliver The Present for Schools training in Beijing last October. Supported by wonderful translators, Qing Qing and Joanna, we trained 34 people to offer the curriculum to children in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The materials were

received enthusiastically, and it was encouraging to see how the humanness of our approach was culturally appropriate to both the adults who attended the training and the children (aged 5-11) who received our teaching. The next step is to train trainers to offer The Present training in China!

Moldova, November 2018

This training included a group from Ukraine and a group from Moldova. We had four languages in the room but a strong sense of our shared experience of being human as we spent time together during The Present training.

Part 2 – Mindfulness for children” kicked off in September 2018 with an intensive onsite training in Chisinau (Moldova) this past November 2018. The program was facilitated by Sarah Silverton and Monica and was based on « the Present ».

Participants are so happy that they can take home caring and innovative methods for the benefit of hundreds of children and support them to DREAM, ACHIEVE, REALISE, EXPRESS (DARE)  !

“Ultimately, we want children to grow up to become happy and responsible adults, capable of achieving their full potential in life. We want to give children to have the courage to strive for their dreams and, if they encounter obstacles, the resilience to try again” (DARE Project director, Caritas Vienna).

Mjög skemmtilegt og áhugavert námskeið. Hef lært svo margt sem mun nýtast mér vel bæði sem einstaklingur og sem betri kennari um ókomna tíð. Takk fyrir mig.

Very interesting and enjoyable course. I have learnt so much which I will be able to use in the future, both as an individual and as a better teacher. Thank you so much.

Frábært námskeið sem opnaði augu mín fyrir því að núvitundarkennsla þarf ekki alltaf að vera formleg hugleiðsla. Ég hef lært margt bæði um mig sem manneskja, kennara og líka lært helling sem ég tek með mér í kennsluna. Takk fyrir mig.

Great course which opened my eyes to the fact that teaching mindfulness doesn´t always have to be formal mindfulness practices. I have learnt so much about me as a human being, teacher and a whole lot that I will be taking with my in my teaching. Thank you so much.

Dásamlegt námskeið. Gott fyrir líkama og sál út í lífið JSara, Bryndís og Anna Dóra, stórt knús til ykkar.

Wonderful course. Very good both for body and soul into life Sarah, Bryndís and Anna Dóra, big hug to you all.

Frábært námskeið! Takk fyrir mig. Það er svo auðvelt að koma núvitund inn í skólastarfið með þessum æfingum og hugmyndum sem ég hef fengið hér. Ég hlakka til að láta hendur standa fram úr ermum. Leiðbeinendurnir, Sarah, Bryndís og Anna Dóra kenndu mér margt. Þær eru svo hlýjar og hvetjandi. Takk aftur kærlega fyrir mig J

Great course! Thank you so much. It is so easy to implement mindfulness into the school with these practices and ideas that I have been given. I look forward to start working on it. The instructors, Sarah, Bryndís and Anna Dóra taught me a lot. They are so warm and inspiring. Thank you once again so much

Frábært námskeið sem opnaði augu mín fyrir möguleikum í starfi. Að það þarf ekki að vera formlegt að taka núvitund inn í almenna kennslu. Það þarf bara að vera meðvitaður um að nýta tækifærin. Takk fyrir góða daga og gagnlega.

Great course, a real eye-opener for possibilities to bring mindfulness to schools. It doesn´t have to be formal to implement mindfulness in everyday teaching. It only needs to be aware of and use the opportunities already there. Thank you so much for good and useful days.

Mjög áhugavert og lærdómsríkt námskeið. Er búin að læra margt sem ég get nýtt mér í daglegu starfi með börnunum en líka í mínu eigin lífi. Frábært að fá að vera með Söru þessa 3 daga, hún er með svo yndislega nærveru. Fer héðan með fullt af hugmyndum sem ég get ekki beðið með að byrja að nota.

Very interesting and enlightening course. Have learnt so much that I can use in my everyday work with the children and also in my own personal life. It has been amazing to have had these 3 days with Sarah, she has such a lovely presence. I´m going away with lots of ideas which I can´t wait to start putting into practice.

Eftir námskeiðið sá ég endalausa möguleika og tækifæri hvernig ég sem kennari get unnið með núvitund með nemendum mínum. Ég er ótrúlega þakklát og glöð að hafa fengið að vera á námskeiðinu. Þúsund þakkir.

After the course I see endless opportunities and chances of how I can work as a teacher with my students with mindfulness. I´m so incredibly thankful and pleased to have been given the opportunity to attend this course. A thousand times, thank you so much.

Dásamlega nærandi og fræðandi námskeið. Flottur kennari (Sarah) sem vakti áhuga og forvitni á því að kynna og kenna núvitund í skólastarfi.

It was such a wonderful and educational course. Great teacher (Sarah) who invoked interest and curiosity to introduce and teach mindfulness in schools.

Frábært námskeið sem styrkti mig í starfi og í einkalífinu.

A great course that strengthened me in my work and personal life.

Frábært kennslunámskeið fyrir skólafólk. Mun klárlega nýtast inn í okkar samfélag, bæði fyrir fullorðna og börn. Sarah, þú ert einstök og námsefnið og nálgunin stórkostleg.

A great teaching material for people working at schools. It will without a doubt be useful in our society, both for adults and children. Sarah, you are exceptional and the material and approach is magnificent.

Gratitude is what is present for me. Just so thankful for the opportunity to come onto this course with Sara who delivers the material in such a beautiful way with so much positivity, warmth, joy and professionally. I look forward to teach the material and be in the now with my students. Above all – slow down.

Grasmere Primary School October 2019

Class Two at Grasmere Primary School have been enjoying some mindfulness sessions through a new project called “The Present”. The children have been learning about how their brain has two sides and that different parts of the brain control different actions.

To start with the children practiced sitting or standing and being aware of their own bodies through what they could feel, see and hear both within themselves and around them. Some children found it difficult at first to close their eyes or be aware of their bodies, but through practice they started to enjoy these moments, moments where they would just “simply be”. The children started asking when was their next “simply be” activity as they looked forward to it so much and would even remind me if we hadn’t done one that day. The more we did the more engaged they became and the less concerned about what others around them were doing. The exercises then moved on to practicing how to focus, choose and connect, and what was happening while they were doing these activities and which part of the brain they were using. The children really enjoyed learning the scientific words which connected the part of the brain with the activity they were doing – especially if their parents didn’t know the words.

The project is introduced through a story that follows two children. The class enjoyed choosing names for the children and hearing a little more about the children as the story developed. Every two weeks a new part of the brain is discussed and then we do activities that use that part of the brain. After each activity we would come together and share our experiences, learning to listen to each other and being patient while waiting. As time went on the children developed lots of fantastic words to describe what they had felt, thought, seen or heard. I was so impressed by how their focus and attention to detail really grew as we worked through the project.

We would usually do our mindfulness sessions after break and before maths, and this helped the children to settle their minds after a busy playtime. It has been so wonderful to see the children grow in their own self awareness and enjoy these activities together. It is a precious gift to be able to give yourself time and space to “simply be”.
